Meet our working LGDs! For more photos, please visit our LGD Photo Gallery. Further information about Livestock Guardian Dogs can be found on our Livestock Guardian Dogs page

Name: Luka

Why? I came to the farm with my name, which can be translated to mean "light."

Breed: Great Pyrenees

Gender: Male

DOB: My exact birthdate is unknown, so my humans chose January 1, 2008.

My Job: I am dedicated to my job, watching over my herd of does. I trained Layla from a puppy, she is now my partner. I am very intelligent and love affection from my family, but am aloof and distant towards strangers.

Name: Coffmans LGD Layla (AKA Layla)

Why? "Layla" was the name given to me before I came here. It means "night," perfect for an LGD who is particularly alert during the night hours!

Breed: Great Pyrenees

Gender: Female

DOB: May 29, 2012

My Job: Luka trained me to be his partner watching our herd of does. I am sweet yet alert and attentive. I am loyal to my herd and my partner.

Name: Penny

Why? In this case, "Penny" is the name I came to the farm with!

Breed: Great Pyrenees

Gender: Female

DOB: March 25, 2013

My Job: I work with Korey to guard the does on the farm. My favorite time of year is kidding season: I love the new kids. As a rescue dog, I am nervous about people, especially strangers. I would rather stay with my livestock!

Name: Koruma (AKA Korey)

Why? "Koruma" is the Turkish word for "Guard." My breed originated in Turkey, and guarding is my job!

Breed: 87% Anatolian, 13% Great Pyrenees

Gender: Male

DOB: April 18, 2014

My Job: My partner is Penny, and we guard the does. I am a dominant, impressive dog who would never let a stranger touch my goats or family! However, I'm just a big baby when it comes to my own people.

Name: Aneto (rhymes with "potato")

Why? Aneto is the highest peak on the Pyrenees mountain range, where my breed originated.

Breed: Great Pyrenees

Gender: Male

DOB: September 25, 2014

My Job: Leyrah and I watch over the bucks. I'm quick to notice if something is wrong, and will bark to alert the other dogs. I have a mellow but aloof personality.

Name: Leyrah

Why? My name is in memory of my amazing mom. It's all the letters of her name, Harley, rearranged to make "Leyrah."

Breed: 57% Great Pyrenees, 43% Anatolian

Gender: Female

DOB: April 23, 2015

My Job: Aneto and I work together to guard the bucks. I'm maternal and sweet, but dominant enough to be an awesome guardian!

Name: Cavaliere

Why? My name is the Italian word for "Knight." My breed originated in Italy, and my job is similar to a knight's.

Breed: 100% Maremma Sheepdog

Gender: Male

DOB: March 23, 2017

My Job: I'm currently an LGD-in-training with my mentors Luka and Layla. Eventually I'll be Luka's replacement as Layla's partner.
